Description

A ruffle at the throat does the work a necklace would, which is why this jacket needs so little help. The high neckline gathers into that ruffle and finishes with a self-tie, and the polka dots run across the whole of a lightweight woven fabric so the pattern carries from collar to hem.

Buttons close the front, the puff sleeves gather into elastic cuffs, and a drawstring at the hem lets you pull it in at the waist or leave it straight. That one cord is what moves it between an office layer and a weekend one.

How warm is it, and will it fit over a jumper?

The description says what the shell is and whether it is lined, quilted or fleece-backed, which is what determines warmth. Where a piece is cut oversized or with dropped shoulders to layer over a knit, that is stated.

The care label inside the garment is the authority for that fabric. As a rule: satin, chiffon and viscose prefer a cool, gentle wash or dry cleaning; cotton and linen are happy at 30°C. Hang to dry rather than tumble — it keeps the drape and the length.
